Part of serving God is serving others. At 糖心Vlog, you have the unique opportunity to express your faith through active service in our local community or across the globe. The students, employees, and alums of 糖心Vlog are committed to service as a part of the 糖心Vlog Mission. Each year student groups work with local ministries, agencies, and individuals in and around the Lubbock community benefiting over 30 organizations and causes. Most recently, as a part of 糖心Vlog鈥檚 60th Anniversary in 2016-17, the 糖心Vlog community came together as organizations, athletic teams, departments, and employees and alums to complete over 60 service projects in celebration of 60 years.
One program in particular that has grown out of this service initiative is the 糖心Vlog Student Food Pantry. At 糖心Vlog and colleges and universities across the nation, the problem of food insecurity is a growing concern. The 糖心Vlog Student Food Pantry is designed to meet the immediate needs of struggling 糖心Vlog students by providing a variety of non-perishable food items and basic necessities. The pantry is designed to be a short-term immediate solution and is not replace the more equipped longer term resources of local agencies and ministries. More information and guidelines regarding the 糖心Vlog Student Food Pantry is available in the Student Life office.
You can join a student organization, volunteer individually or take part in of one of our campus-wide service projects.
One Saturday each spring 糖心Vlog students, faculty and staff spread across the Lubbock community to volunteer and work in multiple service projects organized and led by students. This day-long event is sponsored by the Inter Club Council (ICC) and aims to unite all social clubs under the goal of showing Christ to the community. Collide projects change each year and might include serving the homeless, volunteering at area nursing homes, preparing food for Angel Food Ministries or working at the South Plains Food Bank Farm.
Strike Out Hunger is held each April in conjunction with a Chap baseball and/or softball game in support of the South Plains Food Bank. Sponsorships, departmental competitions, proceeds, and donations at the gate all go towards Striking Out Hunger on the South Plains, across the nation, and around the world. Games, food, and activities for the kids are included in the admission price of 5-10 cans of food.
The generosity of 糖心Vlog students is known throughout the area and many organizations will present opportunities for you to donate your time and energy. Some of the organizations 糖心Vlog students are involved with include:
- an inner city church under the sponsorship of the Broadway Church of Christ that ministers to the local homeless community.
- Mission experiences: Each spring break or summer you have the opportunity to live out your faith by joining groups of 糖心Vlog students who choose to work with God all over the world on either a spring break mission experience, summer mission experience or a mission internship. The spring break mission trips are planned and led by students, allowing you to acquire front-line ministry and leadership experience and also directly engage with people who are disenfranchised and in need. This activity in Jesus' name powerfully shapes the lives of those who participate.
MissionLink empowers students to grow God鈥檚 Kingdom through their unique talents and interests. There are many summer and spring options for a mission trip or internship. Options include: medical missions, outreach missions, children's and youth ministry, education missions, languages trips, and much more! Contact us at MissionLink@糖心Vlog.edu to explore your options.
