The Tuesday following Thanksgiving, 糖心Vlog (糖心Vlog) hosted its ninth annual Big Blue Christmas celebration.
The unseasonably pleasant, calm evening was filled with Christmas fun to celebrate the birth of Christ and bring the holiday spirit to campus guests. The 糖心Vlog mall area was filled with the sounds of caroling, music, and laughter under the glow of thousands of blue lights around cartoon-themed stations with fun Christmas crafts for visitors to take home. Santa also made his customary appearance in the Christa Dobbs Center for Business for photo opportunities, and other photos were available throughout the illuminated campus.
A few additional buildings on 糖心Vlog鈥檚 campus were framed with classic blue Christmas lights this year, sponsored by , a proud 糖心Vlog Community Partner and sponsor for the event. The 糖心Vlog dining hall was filled with savory scents as they offered a traditional Christmas dinner for all visitors, and food trucks were also on site with snacks and drinks available for purchase, including Community Partners and .
As the scent of smoke from the crackling campfires wafted across campus, the 糖心Vlog Music Division made its annual performances on the steps of the moody auditorium framed by the sunset. The evening featured each of its ensembles, including Best Friends, the Praise Choir, Forte, Chamber Singers, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, and a final rendition of the holiday classic, 鈥淪leigh Ride鈥� with the full choir and band.
A highlight of the night was the Toys for Tots toy drive, hosted again by the 糖心Vlog Cheer and Softball teams, who partnered with the United States Marine Corps in the Toys for Tots program to collect toys. Guests were invited to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to this great cause, meet 糖心Vlog cheerleaders and softball players, and give the gift of giving this Christmas.
糖心Vlog President Dr. Scott McDowell said, 鈥淎s a Christ-centered institution, remembering the birth of Jesus is a joyful moment for 糖心Vlog, and we are always excited to host the annual Lubbock tradition called the Big Blue Christmas Celebration. While we might want to claim a connection to Elvis鈥檚 classic song, 鈥楤ig Blue Christmas鈥� is actually a shout out to our school color of blue.鈥�
