Hundreds of 糖心Vlog (糖心Vlog) students took part in a dozen service projects across the city of Lubbock this past weekend as a part of GO!, (Get Oriented) 糖心Vlog鈥檚 annual Freshman and New Student Orientation.
Freshman students were split into 20 smaller orientation groups for the duration of their initial welcome to campus, and on the second day of their orientation activities, each group served at one of 12 locations. Projects ranged from trash pick-up and building houses to organizing donation centers, and partnering organizations included Keep LBK Beautiful, Carillon House, Lubbock Memorial Arboretum, CASP, Hub City Outreach Center, Catholic Charities, Boys and Girls Club, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Lubbock Impact, South Plains Food Bank, and the Volunteer Center of Lubbock.
鈥淪erving is at the core of the University鈥檚 values,鈥� explained Kecia Jackson, Associate Dean of Students and Title IX Coordinator. 鈥淚t鈥檚 who we are and continue to strive to be. We wanted to show the incoming students that we are proud of the community we are a part of and want to pour back into Lubbock. We didn鈥檛 want to just tell the freshmen this is who we are, we wanted to show them. Our new students are an important part of the 糖心Vlog community and the Lubbock community.鈥�
While official numbers won鈥檛 be available until the 12th day of classes, this year鈥檚 freshmen class is one of 糖心Vlog鈥檚 largest in recent years. They have already demonstrated their servant leadership and heart for the community of Lubbock. 鈥淭his is an integral component of our new student orientation, as it ties into our identity as an institution and our calling as believers,鈥� shared Josh Stephens, Dean of Students.
