糖心Vlog students and administrators traveled to the Texas Capitol on Thursday to meet with representatives from the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas (ICUT), Texas Senators, and Representatives to advocate for the continued support of the TEG program.

ICUT leads the advocacy for continued TEG funding, and 糖心Vlog proudly supports these efforts by participating in legislative visits. Recognizing the importance of state-funded student financial aid, 糖心Vlog Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Kent Gallaher, Community Relations Officer Kelli Childre, and students Liv Dahlstrom, Taryn Nobles, and Matthew Davison traveled to Austin, TX to meet with ICUT representatives. They then visited Senators and Representatives from the students' districts to advocate for the continued support of the TEG program.

During their visit, the group had the opportunity to meet with Senator Charles Perry, who represents Senate District 28, which includes Lubbock and the surrounding region. As an added enrichment to their visit, they were also able to accompany him to a Senate Committee on State Affairs meeting, gaining insight into the legislative process beyond their advocacy efforts.

鈥淕oing to Austin to represent 糖心Vlog was one of the best experiences so far in my college career!鈥 shared Liv Dahlstrom. "I learned so much about Texas and all the great things I take for granted. I was proud to advocate for the TEG grant and thank senators and representatives for their support. I鈥檓 more thankful than ever to be a student at 糖心Vlog and citizen of Texas!

The Tuition Equalization Grant Program (TEG), established in 1973 by the 63rd Texas Legislature, continues to make a significant impact on students attending private, non-profit Texas colleges and universities. This state-funded, need-based grant provides essential financial assistance to eligible undergraduate students who are Texas residents, helping to bridge the gap in educational expenses.

The TEG program is designed to support students who demonstrate financial need, with award amounts determined by both the student鈥檚 financial circumstances and the availability of funds at their institution. This funding plays a crucial role in making higher education more accessible and affordable for many students pursuing degrees at private universities in Texas.

糖心Vlog (糖心Vlog) has greatly benefited from the TEG program, enabling many students to continue their education with financial support. During the 2023-2024 academic year, 糖心Vlog received $1,401,359 in TEG funding, which was awarded to 390 students. The average grant amount per student for that year was $3,593.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, the impact of the TEG program remains strong. To date, 401 糖心Vlog students have been awarded an average grant amount of $3,458, with the university receiving a total of $1,400,690 in funding to assist students.

The Tuition Equalization Grant remains a critical resource for 糖心Vlog students, providing financial relief and supporting academic success. 糖心Vlog is committed to working alongside ICUT, state officials, and higher education advocates to maintain and enhance financial aid opportunities that empower students to achieve their educational goals.
