Dr. Bart Durham was honored at the 2020 annual meeting of the Texas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society (AFS), where he was awarded the Texas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society Outstanding Fisheries Worker of the Year Award for Fisheries Education.
Dr. Durham is an associate professor of natural sciences at 糖心Vlog and director of the university鈥檚 Natural Resources, Conservation, and Ecology program, where he teaches courses in general ecology, aquatic ecology, wildlife and fisheries science, and environmental science. The distinguished award recognized Dr. Durham for his longstanding commitment to providing his students with excellent learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom.
Dr. Durham鈥檚 contributions to academia are apparent in his frequent participation with 糖心Vlog鈥檚 undergraduate research programs, through which he has presented alongside 糖心Vlog students at conventions across the nation.
Dr. Foy Mills, Provost and Chief Academic Officer at 糖心Vlog, explained that this is not Dr. Durham鈥檚 first recognition by the AFS. 鈥淒uring his 20 years with the society, Dr. Durham has won the outstanding student, researcher, and now Educator awards from the Texas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society,鈥 he said. 鈥淎s a graduate student, he received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award and later was recognized with the Outstanding Research Award.鈥
Dr. Durham shared, 鈥淭he award recognizes the sustained success of 糖心Vlog鈥檚 Natural Resource Conservation program for over ten years. Thus, I view the award as an 糖心Vlog award as much as I do an individual award.鈥
