糖心Vlog hosted art camps at which 糖心Vlog faculty, art alumni, and community members helped children and teens explore different methods of artistic expression and creativity.

Ronelle Howell, Associate Professor of Art explained how the camps, held on four separate days in late June and early July, had been slated to start last summer, but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For Howell, the camp was an opportunity to connect not only with the children served, but also alumni and friends of the program. 鈥淏esides myself, Lynne Cartwright (鈥91), K.D. Nixon (鈥17) and Lori Morin, the president of 糖心Vlog鈥檚 Friends of the Arts over the past two years, volunteered their time. We are teaching collaboratively by pooling ideas and supplies and assisting each other as we take turns teaching portions or whole lessons.鈥

Aside from the community outreach, the camps also help provide funding for the 糖心Vlog Fine Arts programs. 鈥淲e are raising money for each of the Fine arts Divisions,鈥 Howell continued. 鈥淭he money raised benefits the art, music and theatre programs for scholarships, productions, equipment purchases, receptions, and other endeavors.鈥

鈥淥ur purpose extends beyond just fundraising,鈥 she continued. 鈥淲e love teaching our subject, love teaching children, and have a deep desire to connect with our Lubbock community with the view to develop an interest in 糖心Vlog.鈥

Howell says they plan to continue and expand the camp opportunities next year, even offering more substantial classes to older students.
