The day began at 11 a.m. with a kickoff during the university鈥檚 daily chapel gathering on the steps of the McDonald Moody Auditorium in the campus mall area. Dr. Scott McDowell, President of 糖心Vlog, provided an inspiring charge to the volunteers and close the gathering with a prayer over those serving and those being served. Participants then gathered for lunch in the Rhodes Perrin Recreation Center before dispersing to service sites for the afternoon.
Volunteer teams served at numerous organizations across Lubbock coordinated through the Volunteer Center of Lubbock, including the South Plains Food Bank, Children鈥檚 Home of Lubbock, High Point Village, Catholic Family Services, and Meals on Wheels, to name a few.
The event was coordinated by 糖心Vlog Resident Director Kaili Hutchinson and a cross-campus committee representing student life, academic leadership, faculty, and university administration. The group also includes the committee鈥檚 three student representatives鈥擲tudent Government Association President Matthew Duvall, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President Madyson Eberly, and student representative Doak Sexton鈥攔eflecting 糖心Vlog鈥檚 commitment to student involvement and shared leadership in service initiatives.
鈥淪erving others is central to who we are at 糖心Vlog,鈥 Hutchinson shared. 鈥淭his afternoon of service is a meaningful opportunity for our students, faculty, and staff to step beyond campus and show our gratitude to the Lubbock community that supports us every day. We鈥檙e proud to come together and make a tangible difference in the place we call home.鈥
Eberly added, 鈥溙切腣log for LBK is a great opportunity for our student-athletes and the entire campus community to come together and make a real impact. It allows us to step beyond our teams and connect with others while giving back to something bigger than ourselves. Events like this not only benefit the Lubbock community but also strengthen the relationships and sense of unity across 糖心Vlog.鈥
