The band marches down the aisle of the Moody, proudly playing the tunes of "Barnum," as a chorus of clowns dance out the narrative of 糖心Vlog Theatre Department's fall musical.
"Barnum," a musical about the life of P.T. Barnum, the Greatest Showman on Earth, will play at 糖心Vlog this weekend, Oct. 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. each night in the McDonald Moody Auditorium.
At 糖心Vlog, "Barnum" is directed by Laurie Doyle aided by Don "Doc" Williams, starring students such as Clayton Hendrikson (P.T. Barnum), Abby Langford (Charity Barnum), Jay Lokey (Ringmaster), Hannah Flournoy (Jenny Lind), Braden Jones (General Tom Thumb), Ryan Counts (Amos Scudder), and Kelsey Johnson (Joice Heith) along with an assortment of entertaining clowns.
P.T. Barnum combines razzle-dazzle with charm and brass to sell 鈥渉umbug鈥 to cheering crowds. A joyful and moving musical portrait of the nineteenth century鈥檚 greatest show-biz legend, Barnum is a colorful, dynamic spectacle with heart. Cy Coleman and Michael Stewart鈥檚 rousing score includes 鈥淭here鈥檚 a Sucker Born Every Minute,鈥 鈥淛oin the Circus,鈥 鈥淭he Colors of My Life,鈥 and 鈥淐ome Follow The Band.鈥
Barnum played for 854 performances on Broadway at the St. James Theatre starring Jim Dale and Glenn Close, winning 3 Tony Awards for Actor, Scenic Design and Costume Design, The Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Actor (Jim Dale), and The Theatre World Award (Marianne Tatum as Jenny Lind).
